Frequently Asked Questions
CAN MY student CHOOSE WHICH INSTRUMENT TO PLAY?
There are many factors that go into this decision. Before being assigned an instrument, students will have the opportunity to test and learn about every instrument in the band. A final decision will be made based on physical compatibility, student choice, and instrumentation needs of the program.
How much is this going to cost?!
You can find a list of materials needed and corresponding prices here.
I am willing to speak with you at any time about any concerns you may have. The biggest thing to remember is that we will not let finances stop anyone from having the opportunity to participate in band!

how can i help my student practice?
Materials
Be sure that your student has all of the materials needed for success: method book, metronome/tuner (I recommend the TE Tuner app for smart phones), reeds, valve oil, etc. Be sure that the instrument is maintained and in good repair!
Involvement
Listen to your student play their instrument! Arrange a regular time for them to practice and help them stick to the schedule. Stay up to date with upcoming performances, tests, and auditions.

my student broke his instrument! what do i do?
Please do not try to fix an instrument by yourself. Most of the time it can be fixed easily with the correct tools, but further damage can be done if you're not sure what you're doing. Please consult with me or a repair technician from a music store as soon as possible!
how can i get involved?
Attend your students' performances and show an interest in their musical study! Volunteer to help out and chaperone when possible. Stay up-to-date about upcoming events and performances. Parent involvement is a hallmark of successful band programs, and you can enhance your student's experience by being a part of it!
